Our daily work washes away fear

Our dear brother, Pat Robertson, in his New Year address has stated the Lord has told him of a terrorist attack somewhere in the US in 2007 which will result in a mass killing. This is a fear-filled thought. It tends to strike at the heart of even the most robust and disciplined.

What to do? How to respond? What to think? Is there no future? Should we hide our heads and protect our bodies and material property?

Work is the key. Our daily tasks that the Lord has set before us is our healing. Our work is our purpose while we have breath on this earth. Work satisfies and makes whole the soul. Our work is the doorway to our spiritual development.

Our work can be the mundane things–cooking, cleaning the house, laundry. Our work can be the delightful things–shopping, time with our family, a good movie or book. Our work can be and is the special talents that God has given to us to develop and fulfill while we are here on this earth as–the teachers, the artists, the salespeople, the healers (doctors and nurses) and on and on.

My friend that I spoke of yesterday is about her work again. She, in a way, survived an act of terror. But today she is back at work, buying new equipment and negotiating a new lease for a building to rebuild her business.

The Proverbs 31 woman was not fearful of the winter. She stocked food and clothing for her family by the labor of her hands. She had no fear of what might beset her.

Lord God, Grant us the satisfaction of the daily labor of our hearts and hands, creating and building, in love and truth. Amen.
